Prof Sheldon qualified with a Doctoral Degree in Chemical Engineering. Prof Sheldon started lecturing in the department of Chemical Engineering in January 1999. I have been with CPUT for almost 20 years. During this period, I have held the positions of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor; Head of Programme of Chemical Engineering (CT campus); Head of Department of Chemical Engineering (acting); Assistant Dean of Engineering: Teaching and Learning; Dean of Engineering (acting Jul 2015 – Aug 2017); Dean of Engineering (effective 1 Jan 2018) and Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Technology Innovation and Partnership (acting Aug 2017 to present). Of the 20 years in Higher education Prof SHeldon have spent more than 10 years in senior positions and more than 5 years in a management position managing across all Engineering disciplines.

Prof Sheldon is registered as a Professional Engineering Technologist with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) since September 2001. She is a member of the Water Institute of South Africa (WISA since 2002); South African Institute of Chemical Engineers (SAIChE) since 2011; South African Society for Engineering Educators (SASEE) since 2012; UK Institute of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) since 2014 and African Engineering Education Association since 2016.

Prof Sheldon have served on numerous programme accreditation visits on behalf of the Engineering Council of South African (ECSA) and served as an evaluator of new programmes for the Council of Higher Education (CHE) since 2014; formed part of the CHE Engineering standards generating task team in 2016. From 2017 she serve as the academic member of the ECSA Policy Development and Standards Generating committee (PDSGC). In June 2017 I was elected as a board member for the South African Society for Engineering Education (2017 to 2019).

Prof Sheldon received her first NRF Y2 rating in 2009. In 2016 her NRF rating was upgraded to a C2. To date she has received research funding and grants from NRF Competitive programme for rated researchers; NRF IRDP; Focus area; Thuthuka; Incentive funding; NRF KIC; CPUT URF and contributions; WRC and the Industry. She has successfully graduated 8 Masters and 3 Doctoral students with 8 Masters and 1 Doctoral students currently in progress.

To date she has published and co-authored 25 articles in international peer reviewed journals and co-authored 5 internal conference papers; 1 book chapter and 1 WRC technical report. Her h-index is 9 on Google Scholar Profile with total of more than 200 citations, 8 on Web of Science; and 8 on Scopus with total of more than 150 citations. On Research Gate my RG score is 21.33 with more than 2000 publication reads and more than 150 citations. Her research work has been presented at over 25 conferences both internationally and locally.

Other research related activities include being part of the WISA-MTD organising committee and secretary from 2003 to 2009, during which she was involved in organising 3 WISA-MTD symposiums and workshops and 1 International Conference (WISA-MTC 09). She has been invited to review peer-reviewed articles for a number of International Accredited Journals and have been invited to join a number of Editorial Boards.
