Prof. Dr. Paloma Díaz is Full Professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) since 2003. With a Bachelor and PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, she joined UC3M after graduating in 1992. She has been involved in interdisciplinary research in the Interactive Systems research group (DEI LAB) that she has led since 1996, the Institute of Culture and Technology and the UC3M-BS Institute on Financial Big Data. She has been a visiting scholar at the Information Sciences and Technology College of PSU for two academic years, MAGIC LAB at British Columbia University and the Visualization Institute of Stuttgart University. Her main research areas are interaction design, web engineering, mobile and ubiquitous computing, big data visualisation, civic participation, ICT for learning and teaching and digital cultural heritage. Prof. Díaz has led national and international research projects and has published more than 200 papers in journals, conferences and books. Her teaching profile includes programming, data structures, interaction design, creativity and micro-ethics. She has organized international conferences and symposiums like IEEE ICALT 2008, IEEE VLHCC 2010, IS-EUD 2015, ISCRAM- MED 2016.

Prof. Díaz is IEEE Senior Member and ACM Senior Member and has been involved in IEEE Education Society activities including the DEI ad-hoc committee. From 2007 to 2010 she was the Scientific Manager of the IST research program at the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation. She is currently the Dean of the UC3M Engineering School and Director of theUC3M-Telefonica Chair on Women and Technology. Since 2020 she has been a member of the GEDC executive committee and has participated actively in many activities and panels related to diversity, responsible engineering and artificial intelligence.
