Dr Seeram Ramakrishna, FREng is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the National University of Singapore (NUS). NUS is ranked as number 1 in Asia, and among the top 20 universities in the world. He is the nanotechnology pioneer in Singapore. He is a member of World Economic Forum’s committee on Future of Production. He chairs the Future of Manufacturing at the Institution of Engineers Singapore, and co-leads Smart Manufacturing Expert Group at SPRING, Singapore.
He is a Highly Cited Researcher in Materials Science (Clarivate Analytics). Thomson Reuters identified him among the World’s most influential scientific minds. According to European study (http://www.webometrics.info/en/node/58), he is among the only five researchers from Singapore with H index over 100, and among the only 1612 highly cited researchers (h > 100) in the world. His innovations have been translated into marketed products and start-up companies. He received PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK, and The General Management Training from the Harvard University, USA. He received numerous recognitions which include IFEES President award- Global Visionary; ASEAN Outstanding Engineer Award; IES Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award; NUS Outstanding Researcher Award; CPS Biomaterials Award; Cambridge Nehru Fellowship, and LKY Fellowship, Singapore.
He is an elected International Fellow of Royal Academy of Engineering, UK; Academy of Engineering, Singapore; National Academy of Engineering, India; ASEAN Academy of Engineering & Technology; ISTE, India; Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES); American Association of the Advancement of Science (AAAS); ASM International; American Society for Mechanical Engineers (ASME); American Institute for Medical & Biological Engineering (AIMBE); IMechE and IoM3, UK; International Union of Biomaterials Science & Engineering (FBSE). He is an editorial board member of several international journals, and an Editor of Elsevier J Current Opinion in Biomedical Engineering.
His academic leadership includes University Vice-President (Research Strategy); Dean of Faculty of Engineering; Director of NUS Enterprise; Director of NUS Industry Liaison Office; Founding Director of NUSBioengineering; Founding Co-Director of NUS Nanoscience & Nanotechnology Initiative, NUSNNI. As a founding Chairman he championed the establishment ~ $120 million Solar Energy Research Institute of Singapore, SERIS. $100 million Global Water Center by GE was established under his watch as the Dean of Engineering. He mentored the nuclear science and engineering research and education study group. He served as a board member of several national organizations, policy institutes, and tertiary education institutions.
He co-founded the Global Engineering Deans Council while serving as the Vice-President of International Federation of Engineering Educator Societies (IFEES). He authored the book The Changing Face of Innovation. He advices international organizations, Governments, corporations and universities around the world.
