On March 4, Engineering X attended the World Engineering Day conference with the theme ‘Energy Transition and Sustainability’ in Lisbon, organised by WFEO. Shane McHugh, Interim Associate Director for International, presented a preview of the Global Engineering Capability Review 2024 to global engineering leaders and 60,000 online viewers. The Review by the Engineering X Skills for Safety programme, launching later this year, assesses engineering capacity in 115 countries. It aims to identify potential risks from unsafe engineering practices and provides insights for improving skills and capability. It shows how investing in engineering capacity improves safety outcomes globally, with diverse leadership in engineering skills across continents. Case studies demonstrate how engineers can address new safety challenges, from responsible AI development to recycling renewable energy infrastructure.
Clare Moberly, the Head of Sustainable Development at the Academy expressed that “ it was an exciting moment to reaffirm that engineering can play a vital role in sustainable solutions around the world” and that “it was great to see different engineers working together from diverse backgrounds, which is one of the Academy values.”
