In the contemporary era of Big Data and STEM — science, technology, engineering, and mathematics —it is doubted whether liberal arts degrees are relatively worthless. A question often asked is: What is someone with a degree in English literature, for example, going to do with it, besides teach? More than a decade ago, a U.S. Bureau of Labour Statistics magazine published an article titled “What Can I Do with My Liberal Arts Degree?” which started with: “What are you going to do with a degree in that? Do you want to be a teacher?”. In this context, it is interesting to quote and note Bernard Shaw’s quip: “Those who can do, those who can’t, teach”.
