International Conference on Remote Engineering and Virtual Instrumentation

From the 28 th of February until 2 nd of March, Cairo attracted around 110 scientists and industrial leaders from more than 50 countries to participate in the 19 th International Conference in Remote Engineering and Virtual Instrumentation (REV2022). They came together at the British University in Egypt (BUE) to share their latest research, insights and trends in Online Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. The conference focus was on medical engineering, digitalization and global changes in the society, special trends in engineering education. A special focus was also on the impact of artificial intelligence and data driven algorithms on engineering solutions in automation, mobility and smart cities like in the New Capital in Egypt.

The conference was opened by the CEO and founding president of IAOE, Michael Auer, who underlined the importance to have this conference with long lasting traditions for the first time on the African continent. In his greeting, the First Vice-Chancellor of BUE, Prof. Yehia Bahei-El-Din, stated, that BUE has been investing for several years now in modern instructional infrastructure such as several online labs just as a remotely accessible wind channel for experiments in aerodynamics.
REV2022 offered an exciting technical program as well as networking opportunities concerning the fundamentals, applications, and experiences in the field of Online Engineering and related new technologies, including:

  • Internet of Things & Industrial Internet of Things (Industry 4.0),
  • Online & Biomedical Engineering,
  • Data Science, Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence,
  • Cross & Mixed Reality, and
  • Remote Working Environments

In total nine special sessions have been organized at REV2022, namely:

  1. The impact of Digitization in Engineering Trading (School-University-Industry cooperation)
  2. Flavour and Mood-Multimodal Data Sensing and Analysis
  3. Mixed Reality in Learning Environments
  4. Advances in the Applications of Informatics and Computer Science
  5. Machine and Deep Learning Applications for Robotics
  6. Smart Education for Sustainable Digital Era
  7. AI and Design in Engineering
  8. Robotics and Artificial Intelligence for Knowledge Discovery
  9. Artificial Intelligence in E-learning and Healthcare

The conference was organized by the Faculty of Informatics and Computer Science (ICS) of BUE with support from the Faculty of Engineering of BUE. Prof. Samir el-Seoud and Prof. Omar Karam served as the chairs.

The REV conferences are the annual conferences of the International Association of Online Engineering (IAOE), and the Global Online Laboratory Consortium (GOLC), The conference was supported by Phoenix Contact, and the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS).
The conference proceedings will be published as REV2022 Proceedings with Springer in the series Lecture Notes in Networks and Systems.
The 20 th REV conference will be held at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece in 2023.
