Dr. Khalifa Nasser Al-Khalifa is the Dean of College of Engineering and founding director of Qatar Road Safety Studies Center, Qatar University. He is also Associate Professor at the Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department. He is also the founder of the flagship program Industrial and Systems Engineering at Qatar University. He obtained his PhD in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Birmingham, UK, and his bachelor and master’s degrees from Wayne State University, Michigan, USA, and University of Washington, Seattle, USA, respectively.
Dr. Al-Khalifa is a very active researcher with immense vision. He is capable of launching major projects and seeing them to their successful conclusion. During the last six years, Dr. Al-Khalifa managed a research fund worth over QR 24.0 million (over US$ 8.5 Million) from Qatar National Research Fund and major industries such Exxon Mobile, Maersk Oil, etc. His research focuses on quality and reliability engineering and transportation and traffic engineering. He is an active member of a number of professional societies; currently, he is the chair of American Society for Quality, Qatar Chapter and member of Institute of Industrial Engineers (IIE), USA.
Dr. Al-Khalifa supervised numerous master’s and PhD graduate students in the area of Quality Management Systems and Technology Transfer and directed many research assistants and post-doctoral fellows. Dr. Al-Khalifa has published extensively; he authored over 50 papers in international conferences and leading journals in the area of Quality and Reliability Engineering. He and his team won IIE prestige recognition for their article in IIE magazine, and he and his team also won the best paper award at the 2015 International Conference on Quality, Reliability, Risk, Maintenance, and Safety Engineering (QR2MSE 2015). He was the winner of Qatar University Services Award in 2014.
