Prof Marshall Sheerene Sheldon, holds a Doctoral qualification in Chemical Engineering. She is currently the Executive Dean of Engineering, the Built Environment and Technology at the Nelson Mandela University of Technology and has 24 years higher education experience at various levels.
She has serviced in the following capacities nationally and internationally:
- 2.1. Water Institute of South Africa’s Membrane Technology Division (WISA-MTD) committee and voluntary secretary from 2003 to 2009.
- 2.2. Chaired the South African Renewable Energy Technology Centre (SARETEC) Governance Board from 2018 to 2022.
- 2.3. CPUT representative on the Pan African University Space Science Institute (PAUSSI) establishment from 2015 to 2022.
- 2.4. Board member of the South African Society for Engineering Educators (SASEE) from 2017 to 2019.
- 2.5. Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA): Policy Development and Standards Generating committee (PDSG) from 2017 – 2020.
- 2.6. Global Engineering Dean’s Council (GEDC) Diversity award panel for 2021 and 2022.
- 2.7. Western Cape Education Council from 2021 to 2022.
- 2.8. Served on various panels and working groups for ECSA and CHE.

Research Profile
Prof Sheldon currently holds an NRF C2 rating and has successfully graduated 14 Masters and 4 Doctoral students. Her funding sources were mainly from different National Research Foundation (NRF) funding instruments, the Water Research Commission (WRC) and various industry contributions.
Prof Sheldon’s has published and co-authored international peer reviewed journals; international conference papers; a book chapter and has been involved in multiple WRC technical reports. Her h-index on Google Scholar Profile is 13; Scopus 11 and Web of Science
This research work has been presented at more than 60 conferences both internationally, nationally, and locally. Her research and postgraduate students have received numerous awards at both international and local conferences. Prof Sheldon has been involved in organising many local and international symposiums, workshops and conferences and has peer-reviewed numerous accredited journal articles for various International accredited journals.
